This evening we get an update, following the investigative probe by the Water research commission.
The says the source of the cholera outbreak in Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria, is still unknown. The area recorded over 20 deaths of the waterborne disease, the highest in the country. The Research Commission's, Eunice Ubomba said samples collected from the Apies River, downstream from the Temba Wastewater Treatment Plant, tested positive for cholera.
However, an independent investigation into the source of the outbreak did make a worrying discovery - finding high levels of E. coli in nearby rivers, which could indicate the presence of faecal matter.

Joining Oliver Dickson was Zamantungwa Mbeki -South African Human Rights Commission Gauteng Provincial Manager to reflect on the report, and to share a bit more on the SAHRC's position.
