Upper gastrointestinal cancers, including pancreatic, liver and stomach cancers, have overtaken lung cancer as Australia's deadliest cancer for the first time in two decades. These upper GI cancers now cause almost one in five cancer-related deaths in Australia. The low survival rates are partly attributed to vague symptoms such as unexplained weight loss and fatigue, which can delay diagnosis.
