*UPRIGHT DESIRES*
Live Daily Footstool Devotional
Psalm 37:4 KJVS
Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
There is nothing God cannot give you if you can learn to have upright desires. God is a good Dad. The things He withholds from us when we ask are witheld because our hearts are just not right yet. God would give us just anything if our hearts are first right! It's this way because He is a good Dad.
No good Dad would allow his child to touch a naked electrical wire even if his child cried so hard to be allowed to do so just for fun. That child sure has some desires, but we know that desire will just not be right. It will kill him if his Dad grants it. However, if this child becomes mature and knows to put on some very protective or insulated gear and attempts to handle that naked electrical wire in a bid to take it out of the way so it does not hurt others, Dad will gladly grant permission and even supply all that's needed to make that exercise work.
The reason for our desires must first be pure and meant for holy use. It is only when we delight ourselves in the Lord that we can understand the Father's heart and know what His righteousness and holiness is all about. It is only when we work hard on ourselves enough to just delight in the Lord that our hearts can receive the right settings of uprightness.
Habakkuk 2:4 NIV
“See, the enemy is puffed up; his desires are not upright— but the righteous person will live by his faith".
God will not grant the desires of the enemy over you, simply because those desires are not upright. And the sceptre of the wicked does not rule over the lot of the righteous! ( Psalm 125: 3)
Desire the righteousness of God. Let God teach you what is right and what is wrong. When this has settled well enough with you, you will become someone that God will be comfortable to give anything to, because he knows you will handle and use it in the right way. God doesn't want to keep you in lack at all- he wants to supply you with everything that you need, but first, your walk must be upright and without blame, for your own good, for His and that of others.
Psalm 84:11 NIV
For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.
