This is part 2 of a two-part series about urologists dabbling in the movies. In this two-part series, we are not talking about making cinematic dramas here but rather discussing how to employ video content into urologic education. 

I found online an article called Effective Educational Videos by Cynthia Brame from the Vanderbilt University Center for Teaching. This is an article to how best to use video in the classroom I will put a link to the article in the show notes.  I think there is application if we are going to use video for education for our patients.

 

At the end of her article, Cynthia Brame suggests that all of her study converges to a few recommendations when making video content that will be effective.

1. Keep videos brief and targeted on your topic.
2. Use auditory and the visual elements where appropriate as complements to aid learning.
3. Use signaling to highlight the important ideas or concepts.
4. Use a conversational and enthusiastic style.
5. Remember that videos can be used in the context of active learning and can aid the interactive process of educating your patients. Ask yourself how can a patient interact with the content. Use guided questions and interactive elements.
