The 2016 presidential election pushed the U.S-China relationship to the forefront of public debates. In both foreign policy and domestic politics, China loomed large as politicians threw accusations against Beijing's apparent currency manipulation, damage to American competitiveness, or even stealing of American jobs.

So how do these accusations affect arguably the most important relationship in the world? The Fairbank Center talks to Evan Medeiros, former Senior Director for Asian Affairs at the National Security Council and special assistant to President Obama, about the foundations of U.S.-China relations during the Obama Administration, as well as lessons for the next administration.

The "Harvard on China" podcast is hosted by James Evans at Harvard's Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies.
