Ulysses S. Grant was the victorious 3-Star General who secured the surrender of the Confederate Army commanded by Robert E. Lee on April 9, 1865 to end the Civil War. Their COMMITMENT as eagles facing each other is notable, although Lee cannot be a Hoss due to his devotion to the cause of slavery.  Grant's opposition to slavery and work to advance civil rights for Americans is why he is considered a Hoss.
