World No. 1 Novak Djokovic won his first US Open title when he outplayed defending champion Rafael Nadal 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 (3), 6-1 in a match that saw some of the greatest shot making of the year. Djokovic came back from a break down in the first and second sets, and the third set was so physical both players were clearly affected in the fourth set. Djokovic ended the match with a crosscourt forehand winner, ending the match after more than four hours. He is the fifth man in the Open Era to win three Grand Slam titles in one year, and he is now tied with Jim Courier and Guillermo Vilas for Grand Slam titles won at four. Meanwhile, Serena Williams was fined $2,000 by the USTA for her outburst to chair umpire Eva Asderaki during her loss to Samantha Stosur in the US Open final Sunday.
