Listen Later

Jordan Angeli and Charlie Davies welcome U.S. Soccer Sporting Director Earnie Stewart to the show.

Though rarely one to look back on the past, Stewart reminisced on his playing career, delving into how he first came into the USMNT, his historic game-winning goal against Colombia in the 1994 FIFA World Cup, and becoming the first Black player to captain the side in a World Cup - he wore the armband against Portugal in the 2002 tournament opener.

Back in the Netherlands since the beginning of the COVID shutdown in March, Stewart expands on the issues of racism, sharing what he has experienced, the things he’s observed from Holland, and how this moment can be used to make tangible, lasting change.

Finally, Stewart discusses his current role overseeing the sporting side of the Federation, gives an update on where U.S. Soccer stands on the potential changes to the USMNT’s World Cup Qualifying path, and explains his short-term and long-term goals as Sporting Director.
