In this episode, Steve and Tom interview their good friend, Pastor, and former boxer, Adam Perez. Adam shares how he became interested in bodybuilding and boxing. Adam explains how his uncle took him to boxing when he was 11 or 12 years old and his dad was a fugitive, and he recounts his experience of discovering physical fitness as a way to cope and find purpose in his life. He explains how he quickly became talented at it, and how it provided him with the opportunity to get away from addiction and direct his energy into a positive and productive outlet. He also discusses the Biblical message of physical activity and the idea that it helps to keep kids out of trouble, and he emphasizes the importance of having a finish line or a goal to strive for in any physical activity. Adam discusses how his amateur career, and how he was naturally good at a lot of sports, but boxing was the only one he was great at. He talked about joining a random gym and being put in with a man's son who was a beast and trying to humble him. He expressed how he was very careful in random gyms, as someone can be willing to beat him up. Adam shares how boxing and the coping mechanisms he learned from it have been life changing and that he had never competed professionally in boxing, but he was a professional sparring partner. After being challenged to a fight by a guy trying to take his head off, he beat him up and gave him a shiner. His reputation spread, and he was offered jobs sparring with professional fighters from all over.
