In this archive from the Intel Developer Forum last week, Paul Spellman, PhD and Associate Professor at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), stops by to talk about using computing power to develop gene-level therapy or personalized medicine to fight cancer. OHSU and Intel are collaborating on the supercomputers and analytical tools needed to analyze genomes. In the future this could be extended to crowd-sourced research, where doctors can analyze millions of patients for individual treatments vs. today’s doctors who are forced to treat with the law of averages.
