  • Utah Thrives Podcast | Recidivism in Utah

In a new report, Breaking the Cycle: Recidivism and Reentry in Utah, the Utah Foundation examines Utah’s efforts to prevent offenders from returning to prison after release.

Utah’s definition of recidivism differs from neighboring states. In fact, many who come back to prison for technical violations of their parole aren’t accounted for in the official numbers.

In this edition of Utah Thrives, a roundtable discussion of Utah Foundation staff and board members looks at reasons for recidivism and determined efforts to provide offenders with support and skills to keep them from returning to prison.

In this edition of Utah Thrives, we’ll hear a roundtable discussion with Utah Foundation President Shawn Teigen, Research Director Christopher Collard, Research Analyst Ashley Marshall-Cantor, and interns Maren Cottrell, Jaz Landeros, Holden Cheney, Jackson Sheen, and Lucas Souza Rodrigues.

          • Utah Thrives Podcast | Social Capital Wrap-up
What has all this study and conversation about social capital meant as the Utah Foundation has looked at it from multiple angles? Social capital – defined as the value of relationships in families and the larger community – is an extremely valuable asset, every bit as important as money in the bank for the places and people that have it. Utah Foundation staff looked back on the series of reports about social capital, talking about what it brings to families and communities fortunate enough to claim it.
