Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly, and welcome to the Utah Weather Podcast. It's Saturday, February 17th.
Folks, here's the deal. Utah's running a 20 degree temperature spread this morning, and the mountains are winning the cold war. Six degrees up there right now. That's the kind of cold where your nosehairs freeze on contact.
Down along the Wasatch Front, you're waking up to 19 degrees. Light winds around 6 miles an hour. Honestly not terrible. But don't get cocky. Highs barely budge today, and tonight you're sliding right back into the teens. If you're heading to Sunday River, I mean, Sunday brunch, layer up.
Now drive south and things soften. Southern Utah sits at 26 degrees with barely a whisper of breeze. Highs flirt with freezing. Tonight settles into the low 20s. Almost balmy by comparison.
The mountains though? That's where winter lives. Five miles an hour out of the south and highs struggle to crack double digits. Tonight plunges back to single digits. If you're chasing powder at Snowbird or Brighton, you'll want to bundle like you mean it. Frostbite doesn't wait for your second run.
Quick note on air quality. Moderate range today. If you're sensitive, maybe keep the outdoor workout short.
Here's some good news. We're gaining almost 3 minutes of daylight today. Sunrise hit at 6:32 this morning. Sunset stretches to 5:20 tonight. Spring is whispering.
Here's your heads up for the week ahead. Sunday starts a slow, steady warmup. Wasatch Front climbs into the 30s by midweek. Southern Utah pushes into the 40s. Mountains stay chilly but loosen their grip a little. No major storms on the radar. Just a gentle thaw rolling in like a promise.
One more thing. If this forecast helped you plan your Saturday, share it with someone who needs it. Word of mouth keeps us going.
Stay safe out there. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
