  • Is it Guilt? 3 Keys to Finding Ourselves

We kick off this conversation with a powerful idea from Dr. Becky Kennedy, who says:“Sometimes what we think is guilt is actually just the discomfort of watching someone else in distress. It’s not guilt because you did something wrong—it’s your old wiring trying to metabolize someone else’s emotion.”Using this lens, we explore the role of guilt as a breadcrumb to discover our true selves.Join us on Patreon for exclusive episodes and tailored values and conflict guidance: https://www.patreon.com/valuesbasedlivingGet started with our free Values Quiz: https://values-basedliving.com/top_five_values_quiz/We bring decades of conflict resolution expertise and love to share tips and tricks to interacting better with ourselves and others.Values Based Living support is not meant to replace therapy or advice from health care professionals.

  • When Kindness Backfires: Why Forced Friendships Fail

In this episode, Kristina discussed the importance of self-kindness and the potential pitfalls of people-pleasing. She shared an example of her daughter's desire to give away her stickers to others, highlighting the need for balance between being kind to others and being kind to oneself. Kristina emphasized that kindness doesn't require sacrificing one's own happiness and that it's essential to set boundaries to avoid becoming a doormat.

She also touched on the topic of reciprocation, noting that some individuals may take advantage of one's kindness. Values agreed with Kristina's points, emphasizing the importance of teaching healthy giving habits to children to prevent them from becoming overly self-sacrificing adults.
