We’ve all probably dreamed about truly speaking our minds. Finally telling our bosses just what we think of their performance. Telling someone we deal with just how stupid they are. Telling a parent or partner just how much they’ve hurt us. 

It’s fun and cathartic to speculate on how good it would feel, to just let it all go, let everything we feel spill out. Truly speak our minds. But we know we can’t. As good as it might seem to feel, no matter how it would play out in our heads, we all know the consequences would be terrible. People will be upset; there would be a backlash. Jobs and opportunities lost. Relationships perhaps permanently broken.

We’d also reveal ourselves. How messy and emotional we all are underneath. Just how deep the hurt goes.

It's one of the great ironies of life. We’re all fragile in our own way. We all have pain, anger, anxiety, and doubts, just simmering away beneath the surface. Yet, we can’t share it. We have to hold it in. Hide it and act likes it’s not there. Bottle it up and hope it doesn’t break us.
