In this episode, we delve into the critical relationship between external ventricular drainage (EVD) placement accuracy and puncture channel bleeding (PCB) in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). Based on an abstract from the Journal of Clinical Neuroscience in 2026, this study prospectively analyzed 127 aSAH patients to determine if incorrect EVD trajectories increase the risk of bleeding along the catheter tract. The findings reveal a significant association between malpositioned EVDs and increased PCB, highlighting placement accuracy as a key factor in preventing this complication. The implications for neurovascular care and patient outcomes are discussed. This information is for educational purposes only and should not be considered medical advice.
