Highly renowned church historian John W O’Malley SJ died at the Colombiere Jesuit Community in Baltimore on 11 September, aged 95. He had a long and illustrious career as a writer and teacher on the history of the Church from the Renaissance to the present. He is remembered here in Ireland for giving two memorable talks, one in 2011 and the other in 2015. In this interview, with Pat Coyle of Irish Jesuit Communication, recorded in 2015 he speaks about the election of Pope Francis and what it means for Vatican 11.
