Vegas Strip gaming revenue falls in September as tourism, airline traffic keeps tumbling

Listen Later

Las Vegas Strip's gaming revenue drops by nearly 5.5% in September, marking the first monthly decline since May. The main reason for this drop is a significant decrease in high-end baccarat games, which have been swinging wildly from month to month. Visitation to Las Vegas also continues to slide, with the Strip seeing its ninth straight month of fewer visitors. Big casino operators like Caesars Entertainment and MGM Resorts International have reported a drop in quarterly revenue, with their CEOs admitting to softness in demand from leisure travelers. The lower visitation has also affected convention business and hotel occupancy, with room rates and revenue per available room dropping. Harry Reid International Airport has also seen a drop in passenger numbers, with a particularly steep decline in international visitors from Canada. Financial analysts believe this could be a return to more normal seasonal patterns, but there is optimism that things could bounce back in the fourth quarter and into early 2026, especially if conventions and group business pick up.
