In Acts 28, Paul arrives on Melite after a shipwreck and helps keep the fire burning by gathering and placing wood on the flames. As he serves, a viper hidden among the sticks emerges and fastens itself to his hand. The picture is powerful: what remains hidden in spiritual coldness is often exposed when the fire of prayer, devotion, and service is stirred.
