The 12 books entitled the Minor Prophets are the last 12 books of the Hebrew Bible, tend to not have a lot of chapters, and can sometimes be missed when we read the Bible. But while they are called Minor Prophets, they contain major calls for people to faithfully live God’s Kingdom and critiques when God’s people are unfaithful to Him, and His Kingdom.

In week 4- the final week of our Prophets in a Minor Key sermon series- we looked at the last of the 12 Minor Prophets and the last book in the Old Testament- the book of the prophet Malachi.

In this series we will take a look at a few of these contradictions and see if they are able to be resolved and what these contradictions might have to teach us about God, the Bible, and our faith.

Starting on Sunday February 2 and running through March 2 the Veritas Community will seek to tackle 5 different seeming contradictions or discrepancies in the Bible. We wrapped up our Contradictions? series ) by looking at Matthew 10:34-36 and Isaiah 9:6. Matthew 10 says that Jesus “did not come to bring peace, but a sword.” while Isaiah 9:6 says that the Messiah will be the Prince of Peace. So does he bring a sword (a weapon of violence) or does he work for peace? We explored this seeming contradiction.

In week 4 of our series Contradictions we looked at 1 Samuel 21:1-6 and Mark 2:23-28. 1 Samuel 21 has the priest as Ahimelek while Jesus in Mark 2, while referring to the 1 Samuel 21 passage says the priest was Abiathar. So how do we reconcile this contradiction?

In week 3 of Contradictions? we looked at 2 Samuel 24:1 and 1 Chronicles 21:1. 2 Samuel 24:1 says, "Again the anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and he incited David against them, saying, “Go and take a census of Israel and Judah.” while 1 Chronicles 21:1 says, Satan rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel." So did God or Satan incite David to take a census?

In our second week of Contradictions we looked at 2 Kings 8:26 and 2 Chronicles 22:2. 2 Kings 8:26 says "26 Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem one year. His mother’s name was Athaliah, a granddaughter of Omri king of Israel.:" while 2 Chronicles 22:2 says, "Forty and two years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Athaliah the daughter of Omri." So was he 22 or 42 when he began to reign?

Spend some time looking with us at this contradiction and see if there are ways to resolve the contradiction.
