Veronica Kirin: From Consulting to Creating: How She's Using Anthropology to Shape the Future /Ep 3259

Listen Later

Veronica Kirin is an award-winning anthropreneur and author. She is the founder of Asterisk Women’s Health and cofounder of Anodyne Magazine. She is also the author of the award-winning book “Stories of Elders” and creator of the “Stories of COVID” research which documents the pandemic in real time. She has been named a Forbes NEXT 1,000 Entrepreneur and BEQ 40 LGBTQ Leaders Under 40, and has spoken at two TEDx events.

Veronica Kirin graduated with anthropology honors from Grand Valley State University with the intent to enter the nonprofit and humanitarian sector. She immediately enlisted with the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps where she was personally presented with the Spirit of Service Award by President George HW Bush and received the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Congressional Medals for her service in the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina. Unfortunately, that disaster relief work left her with PTSD, and she was unable to continue her service work. She suffered silently for years, afraid of the stigma that comes with the condition. In 2010 she founded a nonprofit organization in an attempt to continue her service work. Though that organization ultimately failed, it was the spark that lit the entrepreneurial fire and the belief that the foundation of entrepreneurship is self care.

Today, Veronica is recognized as a Forbes NEXT 1000 Entrepreneur and a 40 LGBTQ Leader Under 40 by Business Equality Network. She is the founder of award-winning tech company GreenCup Digital which she exited in 2018; founder of Asterisk, a Web3 company working to revolutionize women’s non-reproductive health worldwide; and cofounder of Anodyne Magazine which publishes art and personal stories about FLINTA* health experiences. Veronica also leverages her anthropological training to study paradigm shifts, resulting in the award-winning book "Stories of Elders," which documents the high-tech revolution through interviews with those that lived it, and the “Stories of COVID” ethnographic project. She speaks at conferences and events around the world and has presented two TEDx talks on her research.  She is most passionate about LGBTQ Rights and Social Equity.
