Versing

Listen Later

It takes a serious sense of self-assuredness for a band from Seattle to put out an that shares the name of the city’s most popular band, but as Versing have proven, they’re definitely on their own trip. This is very guitar-centric music, with layers of the twangy, fuzzy, and skronky good stuff playing blended throughout, playing with both sugary sweet melodies and beautiful, chaotic dissonance. While they get heavier at times, the band owes much more to OTHER 90’s bands than the one their album title might lead you to assume - think Pavement, Yo La Tengo, or Sonic Youth, with aural explorations that take the long way rather than bashing the hook over your head - but it’s definitely there, and totally worth the journey. The band stopped by Serious Business Music in DUMBO, Brooklyn to show us how they do it.
Nirvana by Versing is available now from Help Yourself (cassette, digital)
& Decency Den Records (CD).
