Faith Strengthens Optimism. Optimism Enriches Faith.
What makes you optimistic?
When a new subscriber to the Centre for Optimism answered “Faith”, it prompted me to revisit my research and reflect on a conviction I've shared in my books and essays: Faith strengthens optimism. Optimism enriches faith.
In this episode, I explore how prayer, spiritual traditions, gratitude and community can nourish optimism — and how optimism, in turn, can deepen our experience of faith, encourage us to recognise goodness and inspire us to serve others.
Drawing on research and some wonderful responses to my recent essay, I explore the power of faith, hope and optimism in everyday life.
Faith can give optimism deep roots. Optimism can help faith keep looking towards the light.
I'd love to hear your experience. How does your faith strengthen your optimism, and how does your optimism enrich your faith?

What is optimism, and why does it matter?
In the first episode of Victor Perton, The Optimism Man, Victor explores his definition of optimism: “Optimism is a belief that good things will happen and that things will work out in the end.”
Drawing on scientific research, Julian of Norwich, the wisdom of people around the world and his own family history, Victor explores the power of optimism in our lives, leadership, health and communities.
He shares the origins of The Optimism Man, his mother's lifelong example of optimism, and The Optimism Principle, developed with Robert Masters AM.
And he invites you to consider his favourite question:
What makes you optimistic?
