Victor Wembanyama Out For The Season Is the Least Of His Concerns

San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama will miss the remainder of the season due to deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder, the team confirmed Thursday.

The condition, which is a type of blood clot, was discovered after Wembanyama returned to San Antonio following the NBA All-Star Game. The Spurs explained that deep vein thrombosis is typically treated with blood-thinning medication, a course of treatment that prevents players from participating in high-contact sports like basketball.

Despite the setback, the Spurs remain optimistic about Wembanyama's recovery, expecting him to be ready for the 2025-26 season. Acting head coach Mitch Johnson reassured fans that the team's medical staff believes the condition will not impact the Frenchman’s long-term health.

Wembanyama, the reigning Rookie of the Year and a first-time NBA All-Star, had been putting up impressive numbers before the injury, averaging 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and leading the league with 3.8 blocks per game. The Spurs, with a record of 23-29, will now continue their campaign without their star player.
