Municipal Watch: Ngwathe Local Municipality

Today we visit the Ngwathe Municipality in Parys, Free State. They were in the news earlier this year when the Supreme Court of Appeal ruled that Eskom cannot cut off their electricity supply despite them owing more than a billion at the time. One of the other controversies last year was that of erecting a statue that cost R3.3-million at the never-used Fezile Dabi Stadium, something which upset the Tumahole residents in one of the townships. Young people there would are crying for job opportunities. How are they turning things around seeing we’ve recently come out of the local government elections?
