Around 10,000 Victorian teachers are planning to walk off the job on 24 March in what would be the first statewide strike in more than a decade. The industrial action follows eight months of stalled negotiations with the Allan Government, with the education union rejecting a 17 per cent pay rise over four years and pushing instead for a 35 per cent increase along with more flexible working conditions and doubled student-free days. The Education Minister insists schools will remain open despite some schools already warning parents to make alternative arrangements.
