Snake Plissken is back! This time, he’s trading the concrete jungle of New York for a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles — but the big question is… which Escape is better?

In this episode of Video Villa, we’re taking a look at John Carpenter’s Escape from L.A. and putting it head-to-head with the 1981 classic Escape from New York. From Snake’s new surroundings and over-the-top action to the characters, one-liners, ridiculous moments, and that unmistakable Carpenter style, we’re breaking down what makes both movies so much fun.

Is Escape from L.A. an underrated sequel that deserves more love? Or does Escape from New York still wear the crown?

This week, we're heading into the dystopian streets of New York City to revisit John Carpenter's 1981 cult classic Escape from New York starring Kurt Russell as the one and only Snake Plissken!

Snake has 24 hours to enter the maximum-security prison that is Manhattan, rescue the President, and get the hell out before time runs out. But after revisiting this VHS-era classic, we have to ask the question:

Is Escape from New York actually better than Escape from L.A.? 🤔

We’re breaking down everything from Snake Plissken, the supporting characters, the action, the atmosphere, the practical effects, the music, and that unmistakable John Carpenter style. And, of course, we're putting the 1981 original head-to-head with its controversial 1996 sequel.

Is Escape from New York the untouchable classic everyone remembers? Or does Escape from L.A. deserve more credit than it gets?

Is Death Wish II BETTER Than The Original?

This week on Video Villa, we’re revisiting one of Charles Bronson’s most controversial films, Death Wish II (1982), directed by Michael Winner. Paul Kersey is back, but this time the violence, action, and revenge are turned up to eleven.

Joining us for this episode is our special guest Tony from Hack the Movies, as we break down everything that makes Death Wish II such a memorable—and divisive—entry in the franchise. We discuss the film’s over-the-top action, its darker tone, Michael Winner’s direction, Charles Bronson’s iconic performance, and whether this sequel improves on the original or loses what made the first film so effective.

Do you think Death Wish II is an underrated sequel, or does the original still stand as the best in the series? Let us know in the comments!

Is Over the Top really the cheesy '80s guilty pleasure everyone says it is... or has this Sylvester Stallone classic been misunderstood for decades?

In this episode of Video Villa Podcast, we're taking another look at Stallone's arm-wrestling drama and asking whether Over the Top deserves far more respect than it usually gets. Beneath the trucker hats, over-the-top montages, and larger-than-life arm wrestling matches is a surprisingly heartfelt story about redemption, fatherhood, and second chances.

Join us as we break down what works, what doesn't, and why this forgotten Stallone film has become a favorite among fans who are willing to look beyond its reputation.

Step into the Video Villa as we take a trip back to the gritty streets of Brooklyn, and for today’s episode, I’m joined by Parker from Dissect That Film, to revisit Out for Justice (1991), directed by John Flynn and starring Steven Seagal in what many fans consider one of his toughest and most entertaining action films.

When Seagal’s detective Gino Felino sets out to hunt down the unhinged Richie Madano after the shocking murder of his longtime friend, the result is a relentless revenge thriller packed with brutal fight scenes, memorable one-liners, and peak early-‘90s action movie attitude. But does Out for Justice still deserve its reputation as one of Steven Seagal’s best films, or is it simply another relic of the era?

Join us as we break down the performances, action, direction, unforgettable moments, and whether this cult favorite still earns a spot on your shelf—or if it’s time to put it back in the return bin.

Was 10 to Midnight unfairly dismissed as exploitation trash, or is there more to this gritty Cannon Films cult classic than its reputation suggests?

This week on Video Villa, we’re joined by our special guest Joe from Movie Dumpster to take a fresh look at 10 to Midnight (1983), directed by J. Lee Thompson and starring the legendary Charles Bronson.

Often labeled a “sleaze fest” upon its release, 10 to Midnight was criticized for its graphic violence, lurid subject matter, and exploitative tone. Many critics dismissed it as pure trash, while others have since embraced it as a fascinating blend of police thriller, slasher film, and Cannon Films excess. But has time been kind to this controversial cult favorite?

Have you seen 10 to Midnight? Do you think it’s an underrated thriller, or does its sleazy reputation still hold up?
