The goal of the NFL preseason is to shape a 53- man roster and hope that no starters go down with significant injury. Last year, the Green Bay Packers lost Jordy Nelson for the season. The Jacksonville Jaguars lost Dante Fowler, their number one pick. In the preseason, it is not if an injury will occur, but when and who this injury will happen to.
This year, the "wow" injury started with Tony Romo, and today Teddy Bridgewater tore his ACL and dislocated his left knee. The Vikings had been taking steps forward under Don Zimmer and won the NFC North, in 2015. Bridgewater had positioned himself as the franchise quarterback, and had a chance to beat Seattle in the playoffs, but Blair Walsh missed a 27-yard field goal. Expectations were high in Minnesota, and now their fate lies in the arm of aging veteran Shaun Hill and former Wisconsin Badger Joel Stave.
