Vinton County on the Air is back after a week hiatus.
In Episode 15, we talk about. . . what else – the weather! Along with that, there is the usual Community Calendar, and an interview with Sam Davidson, the Marketing Director for Vinton County who explains to us the content of the new 2014 Vinton County Visitors Guide. Sam also gives us an update on the Vinton County Chamber of Commerce’s VCHS Senior’s of the Month, and a “head’s-up” regarding the Chamber’s next Reverse Raffle.

Along with the Community Calendar of Events, Episode 14 contains some thoughts about our weather over the past week, a little bit of a rant by Bruce about the treatment of Vinton County by the National Weather Service, and an interview with Bob Grillo about the Vinton County Youth Basketball Program.

Here’s Episode 7 of Vinton County on the Air.
In this somewhat shorter episode, we provide you the regular Vinton County Calendar of Events. There are several opportunities for you to get out and about in the county, including a very busy day on Tuesday, November 5th where you can not only exercise your right to vote, but you can also find lots of good food during some special Election Day meals.
Although it didn’t make it into the podcast because of some technical difficulties, we want to thank Carl Knox and NJ Kight for their time spent talking about the Vinton County Tennis Team’s season. We’ll try to get those issues rectified and see if we can’t get that segment of the show back in the coming weeks.
Our one guest for the podcast is Bob Grillo. Bob is well known throughout the county for many community activities, but in this episode, we talk with Bob about the years that he has spent behind the microphone broadcasting the Vikings football, basketball and even a few baseball games.

Here is Episode 6 for Friday, October 25, 2013.
Our Vinton County Calendar of Events includes many different activities for the week of October 25th through November 1st, and we take a peek into some things that are taking place the following week as well.
Next, we present a “Podcast Primer” as we take some time to discuss what a podcast is, how a podcast works, and several of the benefits of podcasting. Although podcasting doesn’t directly related to Vinton County, perhaps it will make this method of disseminating information about Vinton County more useful. Admittedly, it is a little “geeky,” but give it a listen and see if it helps. If you have additional questions, please send them to [email protected].
As part of Vinton County on the Air, we thought it would be interesting to feature some Vinton County residents just to see what impact they have had on our community, and what impact the community has had on them. As the number of these types of interviews grow, it will be interesting to see how each person interviewed feels about the county and its people, and what Vinton County has means to them. In this particular example, I talked with Jim Beckner who was recently recognized by the Vinton County High School Alumni Association for his many years of public service to the county.
In this week’s touch of sports, Carl Knox talks with the Director of Vinton County’s Little Vikes Football program, Jason Newsome. Jason talks about that fine line between competition and learning for the youngsters of the county.
