"Violence In America: The Solutions"

"Violence In America: The Solutions" @nonperishablegoods podcast episode #34  I don't think anyone truly knows how we got here, but we're here. We are living through such turbulent, violent, uncivil, violent times. After the most recent mass shooting here in America, at Robb Elementary school located in the pro-gun state of Texas, there have been so many strong and weak causes and solutions presented, and we feel it's necessary to discuss.

America has sooo many more mass shootings than any other country, and we have more guns here than people.  There are 121 guns per 100 people. There's 393 million guns in America, and many more that aren't registered. In the past we've heard, "guns don't kill people, people kill people." And they are. Yes, we need to address mental health, but a larger problem to be addressed is how easy it is to acquire a firearm in America. Most Americans want common sense gun laws such as universal background checks, red flag laws, gun buyback programs as well as safe storage laws to protect children. However, if you have been paying attention to this podcast you would understand that these laws aren't being put into place because people profit off of our pain here in America. Too many corporate interests of gun manufacturers, the gun lobby and the political power of the NRA is what's stopping us and our children from being as safe as possible. The way these mass shootings are happening statistically it's only a matter of time before it impacts every one of our neighborhoods. Make sure you vote in our primary and general local, state and federal elections to make sure we are electing officials who are going to make our communities safer by supporting common sense gun laws. We can do something to change this by exercising our right to vote. Our votes absolutely do matter.
