Several sages and rishis begin to move out of Chitrakoota, fearing asuras and rakshas. With Bharata gone, Rama felt low and seeing the sages leave, he decided to move into denser forests. The group meets Sage Atri and his wife Anasuya on this journey, and spend time with them before departing the next morning. As they travel, they encounter a Rakshasa named Viradha, which abducts Sita. Despite Rama and Lakshmana's best efforts, the rakshasa overwhelms them.
