ABC Radio Melbourne's Sammy J asked James Nixon about birdstrikes on aircraft after VA148, a Virgin 737, hit a bird after takeoff from Queenstown, New Zealand last night.  The Pilots shut-down the right engine, and diverted the flight to Invercargill.
