In September 2017, it was announced that the Pittsburgh-Columbus-Chicago route was named one of the 10 finalists in the Hyperloop One Global Challenge. Since then, MORPC has partnered with Virgin Hyperloop One to create the <a href= "http://www.morpc.org/program-service/hyperloop-midwest-connect-initiative/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rapid Speed Transportation Initiative</a>.
