Listen Later

On April 11, around 9:50 p.m., a shooting occurred at the Oceanfront near Atlantic Avenue, stemming from an altercation between two groups that escalated into gunfire. Eight people suffered gunshot wounds ranging from non-life-threatening to serious; all expected to survive. Virginia Beach Police Department arrested Jamya Williams, who was wounded and in illegal possession of two firearms, charging her with aggravated assault, use of a firearm in a felony, reckless handling of a firearm causing injury, and protective order violations. Isaiah Charity faced warrants for aggravated malicious wounding and related firearm charges; he was arrested April 13. Ja'Quarrias Morris was arrested April 16 on similar charges of aggravated malicious wounding, firearm use in a felony, and reckless handling. Jahmari Savage was arrested nearby for concealed firearm possession but not linked to the incident. The investigation remains ongoing; a third suspect description—a Black male in a dark hoodie with possible red lettering—is released as police seek public tips.
No other criminal incidents reported in Virginia Beach for the previous week.
A spike in Oceanfront violence prompted a temporary all-ages curfew from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays through late April in the area from Rudee Loop to 31st Street, west of Pacific Avenue.
