Virginia Mens Swimming Team Competes in Inaugural CSCAA Dual Meet Challenge, Faces Top Programs in KnoxvilleThe Virginia mens swimming team recently participated in the inaugural CSCAA Dual Meet Challenge in Knoxville, Tennessee, finishing fourth out of four teams. The team faced three of the nations top programs, losing all three matches, including a thirty-seven to nineteen defeat to Michigan in the third-place meet.Coach Todd DeSorbo made a strategic decision to rest freshman standouts Thomas Heilman and Maximus Williamson in the first match against Arizona State, which limited Virginias scoring potential. Despite the loss, freshman Grant Murphy scored Virginias only individual point, and the team earned two more points in a relay through strategic ranking. In the second match against Michigan, Heilman and Williamson returned to the lineup, and the Cavaliers showed more competitiveness. Heilman broke a program record in the two hundred-yard butterfly, and Williamson set a new mark in the two hundred-yard individual medley. However, Michigan edged out Virginia twenty-four to twenty. In the third match for third place, Michigan controlled the early events, and Virginia couldnt catch up, despite another strong performance from Heilman. The Cavaliers have top-tier talent but need to build more depth and consistency across the roster to compete with programs like Arizona State and Michigan in championship formats.
