Those who follow and participate in Virginia politics know the unique laws of the Commonwealth set up an election every year, split between state races in odd years and federal races in even years. Yet, November’s elections saw two members of the Virginia State Senate elected to serve in the U.S. Congress - Republican John McGuire in VA-05 and Democrat Suhas Subramanyam in VA-10. This has triggered three Special Elections that will take place on Tuesday, January 7th, 2025 in two State Senate and one House of Delegates districts.
Jessi Blakely, State Director for the Family Foundation Action - a Richmond-based Christian Conservative 501c4 - joins the first 2025 episode of the Freedom Shots Podcast to discuss exactly how consequential Tuesday’s Special Elections are for the future of the Commonwealth, not only for the next two months in Richmond but also for Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin’s legacy in his final legislative session, as well as how this sets up November’s state elections.
