Pierre Cleroux, Vice President, Research and Chief Economist, Business Development Bank of Canada

Pierre Cléroux was appointed Vice President, Research and Chief Economist at BDC in 2012.

Pierre leads a team of experts who analyze economic data to identify business and sector trends impacting Canadian entrepreneurs. A seasoned speaker, he regularly travels across the country to help business owners understand the risks and opportunities presented by the economic environment.

Mr. Cléroux is also responsible for providing economic analysis and advice to the Bank’s senior management team, and supervises all marketing and industry research activities. Over his 25 year career as an economist, he has held several influential positions that had a direct impact on entrepreneurs in Canada and abroad.

Ted Mallett, Vice President and Chief Economist, Canadian Federation of Independent Business

Ted Mallett is responsible for CFIB's economics file. With direct access to the perspectives of 110,000 business owners across Canada, Mr. Mallett assembles and publishes information about their business activities in a way that is not possible from traditional sources of economics data. Among the widely followed projects he has created and overseen are CFIB's Business Barometer, a monthly tracking of national, provincial and sectoral business conditions; Help Wanted, a quarterly measure of job vacancies; Communities in Boom, a ranking of entrepreneurial activities within Canada's cities. Ted is a member of the Minister of Finance’s panel of economic forecasters and on the expert advisory panel of the Labour Market Information Council. At CFIB since 1988 Ted is a frequent commentator in the national media on small business and economics issues.

Rebekah Young, Director, Fiscal and Provincial Economics, Scotiabank

Rebekah joined Scotiabank in February 2019 as Director, Fiscal and Provincial Economics. Prior to joining Scotiabank, Rebekah worked at the IMF, and prior to that assignment, she was a senior official at the Department of Finance in Ottawa working on a range of topics, from development economics, to the federal budget, to green finance issues. Rebekah leads our work on provincial and federal economic and fiscal forecasts, and public policy issues.

She holds a B.A. in Chemical Engineering from McGill University, an M.Sc. in Environmental Policy from the London School of Economics in London, England, and an MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France and Singapore.
