The upcoming U.S. Presidential election is shaping up to be one of the most consequential and contentious in modern history. The potential implications for America and Canada are wide ranging.

Panelists:

Frances Donald, Managing Director, Chief Economist and Head of Macro Strategy, Manulife

Frances Donald is Managing Director, Global Chief Economist and Global Head of Macroeconomic Strategy for Manulife Investment Management. In her role, Frances forecasts global macroeconomic and financial trends, analyzes the economy and capital markets for potential opportunities and risks, and serves as a thought leader both within the firm and externally.

As a senior member of the asset allocation team, she coordinates global macro research, assists in the team’s return forecasts, and contributes to portfolio positioning views. Prior to joining Manulife, Frances worked as a financial economist for Scotiabank in Toronto, and before that as a global macro analyst for Pavilion Global Markets in Montreal.

Earlier in her career, she held various positions at Deloitte, Roubini Global Economics, and Bank of Canada. Frances earned a B.A. ,Honours, in Economics from Queen’s University and a Master’s in Economics from New York University. She’s a frequent public speaker and regularly appears in international media, including Bloomberg and CNBC.

Bruce Heyman, Former U.S. Ambassador to Canada

Bruce Heyman is an American business man and the former United States Ambassador to Canada from 2014 to 2017. He is a 33 year veteran of Goldman Sachs, where he served as the managing director of the Private Wealth Management Group from 1999 until December of 2013. Mr. Heyman has served as a board member for the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and the Northwestern Memorial Hospital Foundation. He also served as an advisor to the Fix the Debt CEO Council of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget. He has been a member of The Economic Club of Chicago, The Executives’ Club of Chicago, and the Facing History and Ourselves Chicago Advisory Board. A magna cum laude graduate with both a BA and an MBA from Vanderbilt University, Mr. Heyman continues to maintain close ties to his alma mater. He is past president of the Alumni Board and a former member of the Board of Visitors at the university’s Owen Graduate School of Management.

He is married to the former Vicki Simons of Ashland, Kentucky. They have three grown children, David, Liza, and Caroline, and two grand children, Emma and Clara.

Chris Jackson, Senior Vice President, Ipsos Reid Public Affairs

Chris Jackson is the Senior Vice President and Program Director of Ipsos’ Strategic Research and Polling practice in the United States. His research specialties include public opinion trends, election polling, strategic communications research and reputation research. Chris is an expert on American electoral and public polling with a deep background in the American political system. Beyond politics, Chris has worked across a wide range of research subjects, including technology, healthcare, policy, energy and consumer issues. Chris has been a commentator in major news outlets in the United States and abroad, including Huffington Post, USA Today, Reuters, BuzzFeed, BBC, Sky News, and CBS, as well as original commentary from Ipsos.

Anita Sharma, BNN Bloomberg Reporter and Host of Market Call Tonight

Anita Sharma is a BNN Bloomberg reporter and host of Market Call Tonight. Prior to BNN Bloomberg she had been an anchor and reporter for CTV News Channel, CP24 and SUN TV.

After working on Bay St. in the 90s, Anita started her media career in 2001 as a national network news anchor for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation ,CBC, in Canada.

In Toronto, Anita anchored the business newscast for CBC’s national morning program, providing live, breaking news about the global financial markets and conducting interviews with newsmakers including chief executives and economists. In New Brunswick, Anita hosted the supper hour newscast airing throughout the province.
