THE ESSAY is an occasional new strand that I've introduced alongside VISION ON SOUND for now, in which I take a particular television-related topic or issue, and attempt to approach it with a slightly more intense eye which I'm hoping still manages to be entertaining and not too dry. Obviously, it may eventually become at least a semi-regular feature of the show, but, as I get around to writing them, I'm putting a few out to test the waters, because they might not cosily sit snugly within the episodes I'm currently working on.

That said, with the way VISION ON SOUND devours content, don't be surprised if you hear it again in a future edition.

This third essay tries to answer the question about why I chose television to talk about on my radio show, and I hope that you enjoy it.
