Craig Hockenberry:
When you start seeking rent on the livelihood of artists, I don’t think you get to claim you work at the intersection of Technology and Liberal Arts anymore.

Tyler Hall:
It's hard to believe that on the engineering side, Apple is asking, "How can we be more like Windows Vista?" and on the policy side, they're asking, "How can we be more like the mafia?"

Konstantin:
I went to this dev meetup yesterday evening. It's usually mobile dev focused, and the main talking points were all about "what to do now" that devs were spooked by Apple. I don't think "it's a few grumpy devs", it feels more like big chunks of the dev community are quietly feeling very sick.

Being an Apple user in 2024

Martin Pilkington:
Apple had an opportunity to willingly allow competition through sideloading and other app stores and to simply win by being better.
The problem now is competition is being forced on them but they’re not in a position to be better and have pissed off developers enough that they may not even give them a chance even if they were better, if other good options exist

Drew McCormack:
The problem I see with Apple today is that it is a Cargo Cult. Early 2000s Apple was not afraid to kill darlings — they were not scared of disruption, and best of all was to disrupt yourself. That's not true anymore. It's “And Jobs said there shall be a store, and thou shalt take 30%, and all will be content.” This has become religion, when Jobs himself would have seen the writing on the wall years ago, and adapted. No one at Apple has that power or vision anymore. It's just a religion. An echo.
