Fibroids affect up to 80% of Black women by the age of 50 yr. Often treatment focuses on surgery. But there is a whole area of research - quiet, underfunded, promising- that rarely gets translated to clinical care: vitamin D.* Black women are more likely to be vitamin D deficient*Low vitamin D is linked to a higher risk of developing fibroids*Small clinical trials show that supplementation may slow fibroid growth. This is early research that deserves our attention.
