How do you know you are a Christian? According to scriptures the way a person knew they were a Christian is because they were changed, the bible uses the word transformed. In other words they could look at their life before and look at their life after and see that things were not the same. Christianity is not about doing things better, it is about seeing differently. The bible describes it as being blind and then seeing.  Being a Christian and being saved is an absolute miracle.
