Voices of Africa-13-11-2017

Tune in to Voices of Africa every second Monday at 4pm and enjoy the rich and diverse music of Africa, where the music is as varied as the many different African cultures. Focusing on the different languages featured in the songs, Voices of Africa displays the cultural wonders of Africa, connecting the African community here in Canterbury back to their homeland.

Voices of Africa is presented live by presenter Regina Smedley. Originating from Malawi, Regina has been a Christchurch resident since 2008 and is proud to call herself a Cantabrian. A busy mother of two beautiful children, Regina successfully straddles two cultures – immersing herself in ‘Kiwi’ life, while still staying connected to her roots back home in Malawi. Having recently established an orphanage in Malawi as a leading member in the charity Mphatikizo, Regina is passionate about giving New Zealanders the chance to help out those in need. 

As a migrant herself Regina understands the cultural barriers that can exist when you are living in a new country. Feeling lonely and wanting a connection to her background, the idea of Voices of Africa was born. The programme aims to help eliminate cultural barriers, provide a connection for the African community to their backgrounds, and assist any migrant to feel part of the Christchurch community. Listen to interviews with recent migrants living here in New Zealand, or New Zealanders who have migrated themselves to Africa and stories of their experiences.
