Volcano Preparedness Is An International Effort

This story originally aired on March 18, 2017. More than 23,000 people lost their lives following the 1985 eruption of Nevado del Ruiz volcano in Colombia. In response, the United States Geological Survey and the U.S. Agency for International Development's Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance created the Volcano Disaster Assistance Program , to help prevent other volcanic eruptions from becoming disasters.
