Get Seen. Get Hired.
Your resume could get just 10 seconds of a recruiter's attention. What makes them want to talk to you—and what makes them move on?
Tune into this episode of Volume Control AI, featuring Talent Partner Finnian Durkan, as he tells us insider insights and practical tips on navigating AI in today's recruiting world—and what it takes to stand out.
Finnian, a Talent Partner at Nooks who previously led a 55-person sourcing team, joins hosts Viet Nguyen and Natalie Luke to pull back the curtain on modern recruiting. He reveals what recruiters actually see when an application lands, why certain AI-generated resume templates raise red flags, and what evidence of real skills can earn a second look.
Discover how Finnian uses AI in his own recruiting process, why networking remains one of the most powerful tools in a job search, and how to build meaningful connections—even when you don't know where to start.
Find out if you are a purple squirrel—that rare candidate with an unusual combination of skills and experience—for you, these insights could be especially valuable.
Go behind the recruiting curtain and discover how AI is changing the hiring game, what recruiters are really looking for, and how to get seen, get noticed, and get hired.
In this episode:
• The 10-second scan: What a recruiter looks for when your resume reaches the application pile.
• The AI résumé warning: “I would say one is using AI to generate your resume in general. I would say that's full stop. Don't do that.”
• The expert test: “but you need an expert to kind of go. This will work. That won't. This I can do. That is a hallucination.”
• The skill bluff: “if you don't if you don't have the skill, don't try to fake the skill because people will see it from a mile away.”
• The LinkedIn signals: What Finnian checks, and why the Open to Work banner can help or hurt depending on the employer.
• The purple squirrel: What the term means and how to show the specific experience a role needs.
• The network advantage: How targeted outreach and relationships can lead to conversations that mass applications miss.
• The AI hiring arms race: How recruiting tools and fraudulent applications are changing the work on both sides of the screen.

What if your next lawyer wasn't human? What if the opposing attorney was AI, too? And what if the judge deciding your case was an algorithm?
After 42 years practicing trial law, David Crump has seen how the justice system works, where it breaks down, and what happens when real people need someone to fight for them. Learn from David Crump, Dean of the Keenan Trial Institute, as he explores how artificial intelligence could change the practice of law, from preparing cases to the possibility of entirely virtual courtrooms.
And he's not just talking about it. David has already experimented with 1,200 AI-generated jurors, organized into 100 virtual juries, to explore how different people might deliberate over a case.
But can artificial intelligence actually deliver justice? Who's responsible when AI gets the law wrong? And if both sides have AI advocates, who really has the advantage?
David joins Volume Control! AI hosts Natalie Luke and Viet Nguyen for a fascinating discussion about the future of law, technology, and what happens when human judgment meets machine intelligence.
In this episode, we explore:
• AI as your lawyer: Can ChatGPT tell you whether you have a legal case, and should you believe it?
• AI in the courtroom: How attorneys are already using AI to prepare cases, analyze evidence, and develop trial strategy.
• The hallucination problem: When fabricated legal citations and AI mistakes become professional negligence.
• The changing legal profession: Could paralegals, junior attorneys, and even experienced trial lawyers find their jobs transformed by AI?
• AI judges and advocates: Are we heading toward AI attorneys arguing cases before AI judges and virtual juries?
• The fairness question: Can AI eliminate human bias, or will it introduce a whole new set of problems?
• The virtual jury experiment: What David learned from creating 1,200 virtual jurors and having them deliberate.
• Access to justice: Could AI make legal representation faster, less expensive, and more accessible?
• The billable hour: What happens when AI can accomplish hours of legal work in minutes?
• Where lawyers should embrace AI and where human judgment still matters most.

AI is supposedly going to take every job, run our networks, become our assistant and maybe even fold our laundry. So what’s real, what’s hype, and where are we actually headed? Tune into the first episode of Volume Control AI as we start turning down the noise and turning up real conversations about AI.
In Episode 1, hosts Viet Nguyen and Natalie Luke turn the microphones on themselves. Viet brings decades of experience in wireless, technology, communications and policy, while Natalie comes at AI from the worlds of creative strategy, technology, teaching and the people actually trying to figure out how to use this stuff every day.
They start with something most of us rarely think about: AI is already working behind the scenes to keep our phones connected. From 5G networks handling 80,000 people at a concert to 6G, satellites and Starlink, they look at where AI is already doing work humans simply can’t manage manually anymore.
Then things get bigger: agentic AI, robot butlers, jobs, identity, expertise, relationships, aging, energy, data centers, the power grid and what happens when automated systems get things wrong. It’s the conversation behind Volume Control AI: not AI is wonderful, not AI is terrible, but what is actually happening and what does it mean for the humans living through it?
In this episode:
• The network problem: “humans can't micromanage this anymore.” How AI is already helping wireless networks predict traffic and manage enormous amounts of data.
• 5G, 6G and Starlink: What happens when 80,000 people try to use their phones at the same time, how AI helps networks respond, and what satellite connectivity could mean for what comes next.
• The agentic shift: The difference between AI that answers a question and AI that can actually do work for you.
• The robot butler problem: We want something to empty the dishwasher—but how much of our work, purpose and autonomy do we really want to hand over?
• Aging, caregiving and access: Could physical AI help fill real gaps in care, and will everyone actually be able to afford access to it?
• The expertise question: Having access to AI isn’t the same thing as knowing how to use it. Human judgment still matters when AI gets something wrong, leaves something out or confidently makes something up.
• The personal red line: Bills sound great. Bank accounts? Maybe not. Relationships, therapy, trust and the uncomfortable question of how much of our personal lives we want AI involved in.
• The infrastructure problem: AI needs data centers, data centers need enormous amounts of electricity, and our physical infrastructure was not necessarily built for what is coming next.
• When automated systems get it wrong: Natalie’s $5,500 electric bill becomes a very real example of what happens when technology and human systems collide.
• AI and work: Jobs are already changing. The bigger question may not simply be what AI replaces, but what happens to our expertise, autonomy and identity as the work changes.
