VOTE: "...Do you love your mother? ..."

Listen Later

In the fourth episode on voting, co-hosts Tamara and

Charisse chat with Minister Cedric Blain-Spain, a South Carolinian who served as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention that nominated Vice President
Kamala Harris as its presidential candidate. He is very attuned to community views, apprehensions and desires. With humor and an upbeat perspective, he lays out the advantages of voting and the repercussions of not voting.

In the south some men worry about a woman being in

control, he says. “Some of them just don’t understand a woman being the president of the United States.” But I ask them, “Do you love your mother, do you love your girlfriend. Do you love your sister. It there a woman you don’t love?”

Then, he assures male voters, “Look at [Kamala] as

another sister. Embrace your sister.”

Regardless, however, he stresses, “It’s imperative that

you use your one vote to make a difference because your one vote could be that vote [for victory].”

Minister Spain is an ordained Elder and official

spokesman for his beloved and historic Sandridge Community in Conway, South Carolina. He has worked more than 30 years as a minister of music, more than 25
years in the educational system, 14 years as a Funeral Assistant and currently is a Chapel Musician serving three funeral home chapels. He has ministered across South and North Carolina, and internationally.

Right now, he’s serving his eighth term as the state

executive council member of the South Carolina Democratic Party, 7th Congressional District and his 10th term as the Horry County Democratic Party State Executive Committeeman. He serves as the SCDP’s co-chair of the State Rules Committee and Chair of the State Caucus Organization, Operations & Bylaws Committee where he drafted the inaugural rules and bylaws, and serves as a SC NAACP Task Force Member.

He also led the reorganization of the Conway and

Myrtle Beach NAACP branches both in 2023; and worked as a Commissioner, City of Myrtle Beach Human Rights Commission. He is a founding member of the 7th
Congressional District Democratic Coalition, and the Whittemore Racepath Historical Society.

In 2024, Blain Spain was one of 65 South Carolina
