After the recent election in Thailand, despite all the anticipation and uncertainties among the youths, today, there is no winner coming out of the election. It is not too difficult to understand the impact of the election. However, it is hard to believe how modern politics are polarized in Thailand today, since there is still no PM in the house. Meanwhile, how should we understand the noises generated among the youths? How much do we know the influence of the Monarch? Does it still matter to the nation?


Professor Pavin Chachavalpongpun worked on the topic of foreign relations of Thailand. In the case of Thailand, he argue that changing international circumstances have allowed the military regime to entrench itself in the political realm and to exploit the latest global trend to achieve self-legitimization. In this new trend, China has emerged to shift the regional balance of power and contest the hegemony of the United States, now with President Donald Trump at a wobbly helm. Elsewhere, democracy and regionalism is being seriously challenged, as prevalently seen in Europe and Asia.
