Vagabond Work

VW 1: Tugboat Deckhand | Colin Tully

Listen Later

In this episode, we dig into the responsibilities and realities of working as a deckhand on tugboats. Colin Tully is a buddy of mine who works for Moran Towing Corporation based out of New York Harbor. He's been a tugboat deckhand for 6 years and comes from a multi-generation tugboat family. He has plenty of insight and advice to share on deckhand work and the industry in general. During our conversation, we discuss the daily responsibilities of a deckhand, the qualifications needed to enter the industry, how to find a job, money, the realities of working 3 weeks on/3 weeks off, seasonal/short-term contract work, skills to work on to give you an upper hand, and a whole lot more.
