VZ 037: Vegetarianism & the Environment

Listen Later

Raising animals for human consumption has a tremendous negative impact on our environment.  Grazing animals such as cattle, sheep and goats release harmful gases into the atmosphere as part of their digestive process.  The estimated number of cattle currently being farmed worldwide is 1.5 billion.  Add to this number billions of other grazing animals, both livestock and wild, and the amount of harmful gas they contribute to global warming is off the charts.

This is far from the only environmental hazard that goes hand in hand with the livestock industry.  In this episode, we take a look at what other dangers raising animals for human consumption poses to our planet and to us.  We also discuss steps we can all take to help mitigate and even begin to reverse the damage.
