Christ’s Ascension to Heaven so radiant with the glory of the shekinah gave the apostles a remarkable memory as a source of comfort and a motivation to tenaciously persevere until His return.
Certainly, the sight of our Lord elevating to Heaven in the luminous cloud of the Shekinah glory was galvanizing, and no one remembered or even glanced at the apostles’ glowing faces—except Heaven, which enjoyed the best show by far. The book of Acts tells us, “They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going” (1:10), so we can reasonably imagine their raptured expression as they gazed up until the cloud began to dim with the distance and was only a reflected ember in their eyes and the angels, two white-robed men, told them Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday he will return from heaven in the same way you saw him go!”
