What does it mean to “walk by the Spirit”?
Walking by the Spirit implies both direction and empowerment.
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. He directs us into all the truth. And the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Power who teaches us to say no to ungodliness and worldly passions.
So the question we need to ask ourselves is, “Am I walking by the Spirit? Am I consciously walking by the Spirit?”
Every single day, every single moment of every single day, are we asking, “Holy Spirit, how are you leading me in the direction of Christlikeness?”
And are we calling out to the Holy Spirit, saying “I need your power, your strength, your love, and your peace.”
Or are we walking by the flesh to gratify our desire for self-rule, our desire for various idols in our life?
If we’re not consciously walking by the Spirit, by default, we are going to stray into self-rule and pursuing the various idols of our heart whether we realize it or not.
